HOUSING: We will all be staying at the Quality Inn in Hendersonville. Each room has two double beds and a private bathroom. Space is somewhat limited. $259 tuition is based on four people to a room. If you would like to have a fifth person in a room on a sleeping bag, that would be fine. We cannot be responsible for expensive items.
LAUNDRY FACILITIES: There are coin washers and dryers available on the grounds. There is also a Coin Laundry very close to the Inn for your convenience.
ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE: We request all groups arrive at the camp between 6:00 and 8:00 PM on the opening day. No meals are served on Sunday and all of the time before 6:00 PM is needed for cleaning and program preparation. Please try not to arrive before 6:00 PM, and try to arrive before 8:00 PM as the opening program is scheduled for 8:05 PM. Please remember that no meals are served on Sunday. ServiceWorks closes after breakfast on Friday. All groups should leave by 10:00 AM. No noon meal is served on the closing day of camp.
SAFETY & HEALTH: Everything possible is done to make the camp a safe place for your groups. A modern hospital is only a few minutes drive in case of emergency. It is imperative that the youth director keep on hand all of the medical release forms at all times. Copy the release form and have each participant fully complete two forms. One form is to be mailed to ServiceWorks and the other is to be kept by the youth director. Along with this form, we have found it to be very helpful if each participant would photocopy their insurance card and a parent's or guardian's license onto the back of the release form. This way, important information is readily available. It is important that every participant has an up to date tetanus shot. If, during the mission, a participant gets scraped or steps on a nail and can't remember if their shot is up to date, they could be spending hours at a clinic or hospital taking a good chunk out of their day and the youth directors day. Each group, of course, is welcome to have their own Permission slip and Release of Liability but still is required to have the two copies of ours. While filling these out is often time consuming and difficult, if they are ever needed it proves to be time well spent.
EXTRA STUFF: There is a Snack Bar available with soda, cookies, cakes, candy, gum, or other junk food. Every evening will include time to use the indoor pool, game room, pool tables, ping pong, outside sportsplay and other hotel amenities. Very snappy SW t-shirts are available for ten bucks. We have imposed a $1,500 spending limit per participant at the snack bar. Anyone exceeding this amount will be required to go through some kind of stewardship lecture followed by a hearty thanks for their generosity. (and a free t-shirt)
We will be giving a ServiceWorks digital Group Picture to each group. On Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon, a group picture will be taken of every group at their worksite. At closing program, they will receive a full color 8x10 copy to preserve those special camp memories. You are welcome to take pictures of us as well (for a nominal fee).
A 15-20 minute Camp Video will be provided for all groups. Video footage will be taken with new equipment all during your youth group's week and put together for a video memory of your summer mission experience. The video will be a great way for your church to experience the mission week with you. You are welcome to make copies, you are welcome to edit in more clips of your group. It is your video after all; you provided most of the characters and plot.
CORRESPONDENCE: Our experience has proven that is generally not fruitful for parents to send letters during the mission week because there would not be enough time to receive the letter through the Postal Service. However, sending letters with the youth director to be handed out during the week provides a wonderful source of encouragement.
EMERGENCY NUMBER: In case of emergency, the 727.466.6634 will be forwarded to a machine that is checked several times a day. Upon arrival, we will hand out a cel phone number that is manned (or womanned) 24 hours. We strongly recommend that each youth group have a cel phone with them at all times so that your parents and church can get in touch with you during your free time or Thursday outreach mission.

MUSIC: If your group isn't particularly familiar with newer church worship
songs, we recommend that you purchase this CD from your local Christian book
store. You can expose your group to these songs and it will definitely help
getting us all on the same page. Before the summer, we will try to post the
song list on the web site.
JOURNALING THE WEEK: Each participant will be given a journal to use during the week. It will include a devotional for each morning and evening and of course, space to write your observations, impressions and thoughts. This journal is by no means mandatory, but it may serve your group as a way to help recognize the Lord’s working through your week.
AMUSEMENT PARKS: We do get discounts to various attractions in the area. For Carowinds amusement park in Charlotte we usually pass out coupons that match just about any discount programs available. The Biltmore (which could be a yawner for some youth) gives us an outstanding rate. Whitewater rafting trips are all organized through Nantahala Outdoor Center. There rate is competitive and there safety record is outstanding. You are certainly welcome to organize any activity that suits your youth group's tastes. We are trying to provide some variety on the Links Page.
